Set it once. Forget about it.
If you need to mount disks from elsewhere on your network, Volume Manager can make your life easier. It holds a list of volumes — Windows SMB shares, Apple servers, NAS, the lot — with the username and password, and mounts them whenever you want. Better still, it watches and makes sure they stay mounted if the network status changes.
I purchased this to replace AutoMounter. It was getting stuck connecting drives, especially when changing networks (home, work), and the only way to fix it was to reboot. This works flawlessly. The drives mount when logging in, and remount if the network drops.
Never lose a network drive again.
Take the Mac home, to work, onto Wi‑Fi or VPN. Volume Manager notices the network changed and mounts what belongs there again.
If a server goes down and the share disappears, it mounts it again when the server comes back. Sleep, wake, drop, recover — you should not have to babysit Finder.
SMB is the usual path. Volume Manager was built to mount Windows volumes on macOS without the ritual of connecting by hand every time.

Share protocols: SMB, AFP, NFS, WebDAV, and WebDAVS. Mount point can be /Volumes or a custom path. Action bar: Mount, Eject, Pause, Clean Up, Eject All.

Enterprise export/import can be disabled by IT via managed preferences regardless of tier.
Volume Manager corrects the dreadful SMB implementation on macOS. If the SMB share is unmounted again after a deep sleep, Volume Manager recognizes this and mounts it again, perfect!

After some outstanding support I'm very pleased. Recommended for keeping a NAS mounted for audio apps or media players such as Plex. Very simple, but does everything it says on the box.
Because "Where did the server go?" gets old.
Essentials
Install Volume Manager Pro alongside Original (different bundle IDs). Shares import on first launch or via Preferences → General → Import Original Settings.
Personal, Pro, Pro+, and Enterprise use the same app. Enter a new license key in Preferences → License — no reinstall.
Preferences → General lets you show the app in the menu bar only, menu bar + Dock, or Dock only (App Switcher included when Dock is visible).

How it all started

The original Volume Manager has been great for over a decade. That success and knowledge led very directly to all the new uses of the technology above. The original is now getting older in app years, is still solid and works great. For technical reasons (older code, different language) we decided it's time to move on and for simplicity and use one development environment and coding tools for all our work, so it made sense to discontinue selling it. The personal version above is a clone but with more features and a better, more complete user interface.
We will maintain the original app to work with each new OS as we have always done. We will keep it updated and maintain it for each new macOS version to come. Previous owners can continue to enjoy it or move to one of the newer apps above. Thanks to everyone who helped build the original and all the users who made it successful.
