PhotoShrinkr 2 is built with Swift and SwiftUI — native on Apple silicon, no Rosetta. It shrinks photos and screenshots — JPEG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, AVIF, and more — while keeping visual quality you can verify before you save. Drop a batch, pick a preset, compress, and compare before and after in the same window.
By default PhotoShrinkr writes new optimized files and does not touch your originals. Only enable Replace originals in Settings if you explicitly want in-place overwrite.

How the window is laid out
PhotoShrinkr is built around three columns. You work left to right: choose settings, select files, review results.

| File list columns | Status, filename, original size, optimized size, savings %, and time — sort and scan batch progress at a glance. |
| All-time saved | Running total of disk space saved across every compression (shown in the toolbar area). |
| Compare panel toggle | Hide the right panel with the inspector button (⌘⇧I) when you want more room for the file list. |
| Help (?) | Opens the manual for permissions, presets, and troubleshooting. |
Typical workflow
- Drop images or a folder into the center column.
- Pick a preset in the left sidebar — or switch to Tweak / Effects for custom settings.
- Highlight one or more rows (⌘-click for multiple).
- Press the blue Compress N button — N is how many rows are selected.
- Review before/after in the Compare panel; outputs land beside originals or in your chosen folder.
Compare panel — before & after
Select any finished row and the Compare panel shows the original next to the compressed result. Drag the slider to hunt for quality differences — most photos look identical while file size drops sharply.

Presets
One-click recipes for format, quality, and resize. Selecting a preset updates Tweak; override anything before compressing.

Tweak & Effects

| Also remove background | Stack AI background removal onto a normal compress pass. |
| Replace originals | Overwrite source files in place — off by default. By default PhotoShrinkr writes new optimized files and does not touch your originals. Only enable Replace originals in Settings if you explicitly want in-place overwrite. |
Batch list & status

| Warning (red) | Failed for that file — original untouched; read the short error in the Status column. |
| Smaller-or-skip logic | If compression would make a file larger, PhotoShrinkr keeps the smaller result — your source on disk is still safe unless Replace originals is on. |
Shrinkr Wand — Finder Quick Action
Right-click images in Finder → Quick Actions → PhotoShrinkr. Uses your current sidebar settings — perfect for quick one-offs without opening the full window. Configure completion sound and reveal-in-Finder options in Settings.

When I needed to compress a photo I would use one of my photo editors and simply re-save the file with no image changes. I could easily save half of that size.
