update📝 Changes
- Clip Notes is now a Universal Mac app for both Apple-silicon and Intel Macs.
- A new optional, replayable welcome tour introduces notes one colorful card at a time, with human-paced typing, pointers, examples, and a playful finale.
- The in-app Help button and menus now lead directly to the expanded Clip Notes manual.
- The same app can run independently or quietly as the Clip Notes helper included with direct-download CopyPaste.
- Added a fifteen-day, full-featured local tryout with no account or payment method required.
- After the tryout, existing work remains safe and frozen until activation; temporary session edits remain available until quit.
- A Clip Notes purchase or qualifying CopyPaste license restores saving and the complete lesson library.
✨ New Features
- The welcome tour demonstrates note menus, closing and reopening notes, the notes drawer, Markdown equations, pictures, a recipe, Preferences, and Control-T resizing.
- Right-click inside a note for common text formatting, including font, size, bold, and italic.
- Added Undo and Redo support through the standard Mac editing system.
- Learn with Clip Notes launches ten bundled offline lessons covering Interest, Loans, Gravity, Percentages, Fractions, Budgeting, Inflation, Photosynthesis, Electric Circuits, and the Internet.
- Lessons open as connected groups of colorful sticky-note cards with Markdown, formulas, examples, exercises, lightweight SVG illustrations, and memorable sourced quotations.
- The lesson browser now scrolls visibly, previews part of the next lesson, uses a Scroll for more cue, and gives each lesson a distinctive colored symbol.
- Lesson search examines titles, questions, summaries, keywords, subtopics, objectives, and card contents without contacting an online AI.
- The lesson-browser light bulb illuminates when the browser opens and can be clicked on or off.
- Option-click a lesson card’s close button to dismiss the entire lesson with a gentle card-by-card animation and sound.
- Keep This Card in My Notes turns an educational card into an editable personal Clip Note.
- Added Automatic, Apple Dictation, and Voice Control behaviors for the title-bar microphone.
- Added Speech Health with the selected speech behavior, input device, permission state, last request, and links to Apple’s speech settings.
- Added separate preferences for the playful calendar and pendulum alarm, plus a master Sounds switch.
🔧 Improvements
- Apple’s system-wide Dictation shortcut, including double-Fn, works naturally in Clip Notes and remains the recommended everyday speech shortcut.
- Optional Clip Notes speech shortcuts can use Control-Option-D, Control-Option-Space, or be disabled to avoid collisions with other utilities.
- Preferences headings, controls, explanatory text, and tab spacing are consistently aligned and easier to read.
- Interactive controls throughout notes, Preferences, Search, Learn, Calendar, Alarm, and licensing now provide explanatory tooltips.
- The default note-color selector reliably applies the chosen color and clearly marks the selection.
- The General preferences page now explains the date/calendar and time/alarm title-bar interactions.
- Lesson cards stay separate from personal notes unless the user explicitly chooses to keep one.
🐛 Bug Fixes
- Fixed the welcome tour advancing to the same recipe card instead of the next card.
- Corrected the Preferences toolbar artwork and presentation during onboarding.
- Check for Updates now asks Sparkle to check for a newer version instead of opening the changelog page.
- Release Archives now receive a company-wide, monotonically increasing integer build number, preventing reused or malformed Sparkle versions.
- Only one Clip Notes process can run at a time, preventing duplicate menu-bar icons from multiple copies or Xcode launches.
- Option-clicking the standalone Clip Notes menu-bar icon reliably creates a new note.
- Removed the private dictation-manager fallback and system-wide Escape injection; Clip Notes now cooperates through the normal AppKit text system.
- Clip Notes no longer opens or holds a background audio engine for speech.
- Improved preference contrast and corrected misaligned General, Dictation, and Markup labels.
